Theme: Innovation and Management Strategies for Biodiversity Conservation
Motivation for the Forum
As the global economy faces the accelerating crisis of biodiversity loss governments and corporate managers encounter the growing challenge of managing ecological risks while sustaining economic stability. While biodiversity conservation has become integral to national sustainability strategies direct interventions by regulators may create distortions or resource misallocations if not properly aligned with market mechanisms. Achieving sustainability therefore requires balancing conservation ambitions with management efficiency and adopting a comprehensive systemic approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of markets and institutions and policies. The inherent complexity and transnational nature of biodiversity loss make institutional and policy coordination paramount. Fragmented actions can lead to regulatory arbitrage and undermine the overall effectiveness of conservation interventions. In this context close coordination between environmental agencies and financial sectors is especially critical to ensure that biodiversity protection and technological innovation form a coherent and mutually supportive framework rather than working at conflicting purposes. This special issue and its associated conference aim to foster dialogue among academics and policymakers on how to design and evaluate and coordinate systems for biodiversity resilience within and across economies.
Discussion Topic including:
Innovation and Technology in Biodiversity Management. Digital transformation in conservation and the application of artificial intelligence and satellite remote sensing in biodiversity monitoring Big data frameworks to assess ecosystem health and service value and data driven decision support systems Technological solutions for ecological restoration and cost benefit analysis of nature based solutions.
Corporate Biodiversity Management and Strategy. Management strategies to trace and reduce biodiversity footprints in global value chains and supply networks Corporate governance structures and how board incentives influence corporate biodiversity performance Innovation in nature positive business models and circular economy approaches to minimize ecological impact.
Policy Coordination and Environmental Governance. The comprehensive systemic approach to coordinating urban planning and industrial policy and ecological conservation redlines Evaluation of biodiversity regulations and their impact on industrial innovation and management practices Institutional designs that foster public private partnerships for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Biodiversity Accounting and Environmental Disclosure. Corporate biodiversity disclosure and the quality of environmental reporting Impact of governance structures and board composition on biodiversity performance Firm level biodiversity risk exposure and its implications for credit ratings and cost of capital Pension fund asset allocation and the integration of biodiversity risks in investment strategies
Regional and Urban Ecological Management. Integration of green infrastructure and nature based solutions into smart city management and urban planning Comparative studies on biodiversity management strategies across different economic zones and regional heterogeneity Analysis of spillover effects where regional environmental management policies affect biodiversity in neighboring jurisdictions.
